Turkish snacks and a jam session: UM students raise money for earthquake victims

Various actions for Turkey and Syria at UM

Several tables full of homemade Turkish snacks and sweets, this afternoon in the canteen of the inner city library. For ten euros - or more - students can fill up a plate. The proceeds of the action, organised by a number of Turkish UM students, are destined for the victims of the severe earthquakes in Turkey and Syria from over a week ago.

It's one of several actions by UM students this week. For instance, Aperture, the study association of the Maastricht Science Program, is organising a market and jam session in the Sustainability Hub on Tapijn tonight. Tomorrow, students from the Department of Advanced Computer Science will sell Turkish food in the Faculty of Science and Engineering building (Paul-Henri Spaaklaan 1) between 10:00 and 18:00. Students and staff are organising food fundraisers at other places as well this week, including on Wednesday from 11:00-14:00 at the inner city library and on Thursday from 11:00-17:00 at the entrance of the law faculty.

The money raised will go to various (local) organisations, including the Turkish AHBAP and the Red Cross in Syria.
