When you can't or don't want to choose yet, University College Maastricht (UCM) is an ideal outcome. That’s why this was the first result from Lara Zijlema's study test. She has many interests so why not choose everything? Zijlema will soon start studying history, politics, neuroscience and psychology. Besides the freedom of choice, the status of the programme was also important to Zijlema. 'It is an Honours programme, it highly ranked and therefore offers many opportunities for my further career.'
The Netherlands has four University Colleges, for two of which Zijlema was accepted: Amsterdam and Maastricht. So why did the Hilversum native choose Maastricht after all? "Maastricht is a smaller and therefore more cosy city. It seemed cosier than Amsterdam." And does she want to join a student union? She starts grinning. "My housemates are all in Circumflex. There is always something to do, which seems cosy. I do look forward to the hazing a bit, but if I don't want to do something, I just don't do it.' So it looks like Circumflex will soon have another member.
