Rianne Letschert as Minister of Education? She herself knows nothing about it yet

Still unclear whether UM-president Letschert will leave for The Hague

MAASTRICHT. Maastricht University president Rianne Letschert will become the new Minister of Education for D66. This news was reported today not only by RTL Nieuws, but also by de Volkskrant and de Limburger. When asked, Letschert could not confirm the news.

Even before Letschert became an informateur in The Hague, she made no secret of her political ambitions within her inner circle. She had passed up a ministerial post in the fourth Rutte cabinet because she had just become chair of the UM board and her family was her priority. Moreover, as she made clear in an earlier interview with de Limburger, it had to be a good fit “on a personal and professional level.” She is therefore surprised that she is already being announced in the media as a minister. “No, I can't confirm it yet,” she says. What is clear, however, is that D66 will be given the ministerial post of Education.
