Nick Bos had already had a full career at Maastricht University before he became vice president of the Executive Board on 1 January 2014. He was responsible for finances and operations. He retired last year.
In a farewell interview with Observant, he said that the Province of Limburg had asked him to continue supporting Brightlands two days a week after his departure from UM. Bos is the founding father of the four Brightlands campuses (Maastricht, Venlo, Heerlen, and Sittard-Geleen), where companies and the university collaborate. He helped set them up and further developed them.
Now, he has taken on a larger role: as of August 1, Bos will succeed TU Delft Executive Board member Marien van der Meer. The supervisory board has appointed the retired former Maastricht University executive for a one-year term, according to Delta. He will serve as Vice President Operations (VPO), working directly alongside Rector and President Tim van der Hagen and Vice Rector and Vice President Hans Hellendoorn. Bos will face several major issues, such as budget cuts and improving social safety.
Bos is no stranger to Luc Soete, the acting chair of the TU Delft supervisory board. Soete served as rector of UM from 2012 to 2016 and thus partially overlapped with Bos on the Executive Board.
