For the 21st time, the Conservatorium Maastricht is organising its annual festival. As Dutch composer Otto Ketting will celebrate his 75th birthday this year, the festival will focus on him and his sources of inspiration. As the son of a famous but old-fashioned musician, Ketting found himself caught in the middle of a clash between the old and new generation of Dutch composers. He has been criticised by conservative musicians, but won many prizes as well. The Stravinsky Chamber Orchestra, in which students from the conservatory take part, will render loosely music from Ketting, Stravinsky and Debussy. If you can’t get enough of Ketting, you can visit the other two days of the festival (Wednesday and Thursday) for free at the Conservatorium Maastricht, Bonnefantenstraat 15. Tickets for Tuesday are available online (www.theateraanhetvrijthof.nl) and for more information you can visit www.consevatoriummaastricht.nl.
