9-9-2010 -

Following on from the opening of the academic year, the Theater aan het Vrijthof is hosting the opening of the cultural season. At the Parcours, Maastricht’s theatres, museums, drama societies and other cultural organisations present themselves on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 September. For instance, you can join in the celebrations for the sixtieth anniversary of the Drama Academy in Maastricht, or opt for the Janis Joplin tribute band Lucie’s Janis. For the full programme, please visit www.hetparcours.nl

This weekend is the best time to go sightseeing: on the annual Open Monumentendag (Heritage Days), historical buildings like the Sint Servaas church charge no entrance fee. There are also various activities like a guided tour through the De Keyzer brewery or the old fortress Fort Willem I. If you want to know more, please visit www.openmonumentendag.nl.

On Saturday 12 September it’s Arthur Guinness Day at the John Mullins Irish Pub, when Guinness lovers from all over the world drink a glass of the beer in memory of its founder Arthur Guinness. At the Irish Pub the drinking will be accompanied by Gypsy Dave’s music, which can best be described as folk rock with a bit of seventies punk. The music will start at 18.00.
